The word Doula comes from the ancient Greek language and means a woman who helps other women in childbirth and beyond. A doula is a trained and experienced birth assistant. She is available to give you information, emotional & physical support, to comfort you during pregnancy, labor & postpartum. She doesn't do clinical evaluations. In western societies the Doula's job has become popular because a mother's women relatives may be away or working; or they may have different opinions about birth than the mother's. A Doula does not replace family but enhances it. A Doula also doesn't take over for the father or partner, but allows them to participate at their comfort level.
As your doula I am with you to help you have the birth YOU choose by supporting and empowering you in your choices and decisions. There is no right or wrong way to give birth as long as you are given information and making informed choices. Every mother, couple & family are unique.
I believe that every mother that wants a doula should have one. So, please call so we can discuss, ways to get a doula.
I hope that you find information and resources to answer some of your questions and concerns. I would be honored to talk to you about how I might help you during your pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum.
